Robbie Rogers

Robbie Rogers made a scoring return to action on Tuesday when he netted in a 3-0 success against Carlisle United at Thorp arch.

Rogers scored the third goal of the game to wrap up what ended in a comfortable victory for a Leeds United XI.

The game saw the American return to action after being sidelined following a clash of heads against Doncaster while Andy O'Brien also returned to action after injury.

It was a fairly tight opening to proceedings, Alex Cairns producing one particularly notable double save while the scores were at 0-0, and Neil Redfearn's side went ahead courtesy of a goal from a trialist defender after a corner.

Billy Paynter doubled the advantage after the break when he drilled the ball home before Rogers showed good feet and composure to make it 3-0.

Redfearn was pleased with the game and he said: "It was a good workout. It was played at a good tempo. They were a decent side and they provided us with good opposition.

"It was a good test which is what you want, but we were professional in what we did and it was very pleasing not to concede."

The friendly clash also marked a Thorp Arch return for former United defender Lubo Michalik, who lined up at the back for the visitors.

United: Cairns, L Turner, Trialist, O'Brien (C Taylor), Parker, Thompson, N Turner, Nunez, Rogers, Paynter (Poleon), Forssell (Ions).
