Neil Warnock in training

New United manager Neil Warnock insists he doesn't expect the off-field issues at Portsmouth to have any impact on Saturday's clash at Fratton Park.

Warnock's first away game as boss sees United head for the south coast to take on the troubled club. Portsmouth have fallen into administration and on Thursday it was announced that 33 members of staff had been made redundant.

"What's happening off the field won't affect what happens on it," said the boss.

"Footballers just want to play football and that's what they will do. When you look at the players they have, there's not many bad players at the club. They certainly have a good 11.

"I remember the last time Portsmouth went into administration, I think they signed two players on 20-odd grand a week which says it all!

"We've had a hard week and a good week, and we'll be looking to get amongst them on Saturday. It's one of the noisier places in terms of atmosphere."

Warnock must make at least one change from last weekend with winger Andros Townsend having returned to Tottenham. The boss revealed that Ross McCormack has missed training this week due to an injury, but is keeping his cards close to his chest regarding his first team selection.

"Ross hasn't trained all week," he confirmed. "But then there's a few who've not been involved recently as well such as Paynter, Forssell, Bromby, and Nunez, who all did well in the reserve game on Tuesday."
