Defender hoping to kick-start campaign...
Recalled defender Alex Bruce is hoping Saturday's win against Doncaster Rovers will prove to be the foundation for a renewed push for promotion under the guidance of Neil Warnock.
The new manager watched from the stands as United stole a 99th minute winner to secure a 3-2 success, but he met the players before the game and also spoke with them at half-time.
"He spoke to us and his know-how of the game rubs off on you straight away," said Alex.
"He has a good way of putting things across and you knowing what your job is.
"I think he was pleased with the character we showed. It wasn't the easiest, it was a bit bobbly, the atmosphere was nervy at times, but towards the end when this great support got behind us we showed what we can do and the winning goal epitomised the last 15 or 20 minutes for us.
"A lot happened in the 12 hours before the game. It takes a bit of time to sink in, but Saturday was great to get the result and was a good foundation. Everyone in football knows what he's all about and his reputation in football speaks for itself.
"I think it's a great appointment by the club and hopefully we can push forward and get this club back where it belongs, which is the Premier League."
Saturday was Alex's second appearance of what has proved to be a frustrating season for him - and he is now hoping he can re-establish himself in the United side for the promotion push.
"This has been the most frustrating time of my career," said Alex.
"I've always played the majority of games in a season, but this season it hasn't gone my way.
"I think when you ask footballers they always have spells like this in your career and you have to batten down the hatches and stay mentally strong.
"Hopefully now I can get my season up and running and play a part."
