Neil Redfearn

Temporary manager Neil Redfearn insists a case of side before self as he looks to keep Leeds United's Play-Off challenge on course.

Redfearn took over the reins on a temporary basis last midweek, following the departure of Simon Grayson and his staff, and he guided United to a 3-0 win at Bristol City on Saturday.

The club's under-18s coach was joined by Academy goalkeeping coach Andy Leaning and experienced central defender Andy O'Brien in the dug-out at Ashton Gate.

Speculation as to the next permanent appointment hogged the headlines during the build-up to the weekend game, but Redfearn insists he is staying firmly focused on working with the players.

"They are a good bunch of lads with good attitudes who want to do well," he said. "It's not been a problem working with them.

"I'm employed by the club and that won't change. I'm directed to by the people above and the powers that be will decide on whoever the next manager is. What I want to do is make sure I do as well while I'm here and in charge. If it is me great, if it isn't I will support whoever comes in.

"It was a good performance on Saturday, but you can't look past that because it's one performance. The most important thing is that we're winning.

"Managers always get touted about, but the most important people are the players, and it's important they're up for every game and that they're organised and in good condition. That's what we did on Saturday and that's what we'll focus on this week for the Brighton game, and so on until I'm told otherwise.

"It's a real honour to be asked to do this. It's a difficult set of circumstances when someone loses their job, and Simon has done a tremendous job, but I've been in the game long enough to know how it works.

"The most important thing is the football club and keeping moving forward. We did well on Saturday. It's a great result, you cherish it while you can, but it's the next game now, and that's Brighton."
