Billy Paynter celebrates

Goals from Matty Pattison and Billy Paynter secured a Leeds United XI victory against Celtic at Thorp Arch on Tuesday.

South African trialist Pattison opened the scoring when he netted from the edge of the box after good work by Nathan Turner.

And Paynter made it 2-0 during the closing stages when he converted from close range after Leeds broke quickly from a corner.

United reserve team coach Neil Redfearn was delighted with what he described as another "excellent workout" for the players.

"It was a cracking game," said Neil. "They were a very good side and at times we had to be at full tilt to stay in it.

"We defended well, Maik made some good saves, and we scored two decent goals.

"There was nothing in the contest, but it was very competitive and I thought we did well."

United: Taylor, Byram, Connolly, Killock, Parker (Lenighan 60), Pattison, L Turner, N Turner, Nunez, Sam, Paynter.
