Simon Grayson on Ipswich victory...
United manager Simon Grayson insists his side still have plenty of work to do, despite beating Ipswich Town 3-1 at Elland Road on Saturday.
Three goals in the final 17 minutes secured United the points from a game that changed dramatically following the second half sending off of Ipswich goalkeeper Alex McCarthy.
Up to that point, United were trailing 1-0 and appeared to be heading for defeat, but goals from Robert Snodgrass, Ross McCormack, and Luciano Becchio ensured it was Leeds who emerged victorious.
"Ultimately it's all about winning football matches, not that it will paper over the cracks or anything and fool anyone into thinking we played well because in the first half we were poor," said the boss.
"Too many players were off it, there was a sense of anxiety and nervousness which affected them. The conditions weren't great, but they were the same for Ipswich and they were the better the team. We were lucky to be just 1-0 down at half-time and that gave us an opportunity to get things sorted.
"Things changed with the sending off, we got the equaliser, and you could sense the shackles were released and we went on to win the game. The game mirrored the one at Portman Road when we dominated then had a man sent off and the game changed.
"The players have immense character and spirit, but I'll reiterate that it doesn't paper over the cracks about what we need to do better."
Ironically, the incident which changed the game involved former United man loan McCarthy, who was red carded for handling the ball outside of the bos.
"These things happen," said the United boss.
"He'll go on to be a fantastic goalkeeper. He made a bad decision, but it happens. It galvanised us and gave us an opportunity to get back in the game."
