Goalkeeper signs new Elland Road deal...
Teenage goalkeeper Alex Cairns has committed his future to the club after signing a new two-year contract.
The 19-year-old signed his first professional deal last summer and after being in and around the first team squad this season, the Doncaster-born goalkeeper has been handed an extended stay with the club.
"It was an easy decision as soon as it was put to me," said Alex.
"It's a great club to be at, and working with Lonners and Maik and learning everything from them is fantastic.
"I've been trying to get my head down and work on things that need improving, and those two and Andy Beasley are helping me a lot.
"Lonners and Maik are two great professionals and really good lads to work with. I've learnt so much from them already and am looking forward to learning more."
Alex made his senior debut against Blackpool in November as a second half substitute when he replaced Paul Rachubka and while admitting he wished the circumstances had been different, it was still something to remember.
"Making my debut is the highlight so far," he said.
"Obviously the circumstances weren't very good, but it was my debut and a chance to show the Leeds fans a little bit of what I can do.
"When you look at the chances the younger players have had this year, it proves the manager has faith in the youth and shows that the club has a great Academy."
So, with another two years to look forward to as a Leeds player, Alex has plenty to look forward to as he looks to continue developing his game.
"I want to keep learning what I can and gain as much experience as I can," he said.
"It might be that I go gain experience at another club and come back here and stake my claim to be in the first team.
"You have to bide your time more as a goalkeeper and build your experience up before you get thrown in there.
"Hopefully I can do that and prove to the Leeds fans and the manager and coaching staff what I can do."
