Aidy White reflects on Emirates experience...
Young defender Aidy White is hoping Leeds United can draw on the inspiration of the clash with Arsenal on Monday to propel the club back into the Premier League.
Leeds were beaten by a solitary strike from Thierry Henry after matching the Gunners stride for stride during a competitive FA Cup clash at the Emirates Stadium.
"We gave a good account of ourselves," said Aidy. "We came up against some of the best players in the world at a stadium where you look around and know you will have a tough game on your hands.
"I thought we did well. It was a shame with the goal, but he's a great player and maybe it was written in the stars for him. We couldn't get the result we wanted, but we went there and did well."
United adopted a dogged approach to the game that saw Simon Grayson's men keeping men behind the ball and looking to move forward on the counter.
"Our aim was to sit behind the ball and let them have it," said Aidy.
"They have some classy players and if you're open they'd look to pick you off so we sat behind and tried to nick a goal.
"The longer the game went on the more confident we grew. Unfortunately we didn't manage to do that but on another day it might have happened."
But, despite the blow of conceding a late goal to Henry, there was no time for despondency in the United dressing room as thoughts turned quickly towards what could be drawn from the experience in the coming weeks.
"The manager said we should be proud of ourselves and that we'd done well," said Aidy.
"We'll just keep going now and take what we've learned into our league performances.
"You look around the Emirates and the players and that can only give you motivation to get out of this league and get promoted. We have to aspire to these things.
"Players like Henry, Arshavin, Walcott…they're all international players and top footballers and that's what we all aspire to."
