Zac Thompson against Lincoln reservers

United youngster Zac Thompson said winning was a bonus after he stepped up to make his first league start for the club against Burnley on Monday.

Zac, who turned 19 on Tuesday, was a surprise inclusion when he was named at the heart of the midfield for the clash with the Clarets, but he went on to have an impressive first league 90 minutes in a United shirt.

"I was made up to be in the squad never mind starting the game, so to win was a bonus," said Zac.

"I found out when I got in the changing room an hour and a half before.

"I had no inkling I'd be involved, it took me by surprise, it was a good surprise. I did get a bit nervous, but once you get out there, you're fine.

"I started centre-mid, but once Paddy got injured I went to right back and I'll play wherever. I had to come in and do what I could do."

Even from right-back Zac was a driving force as United looked to get back into the game after falling behind - and the youngster says the belief never wavered that Leeds could turn the scoreline around and win.

"We always finish strong and we have the players who can score," said Zac. "I felt we could win.

"When Ross took it and scored in the last minute we were over the moon. It was mostly relief because we did deserve it, but there's no better feeling than winning games.

"Everyone was buzzing after the game, and everyone's looking forward to Arsenal now. That would be a dream come true for me if I play there."
