Andros Townsend against Burnley

Loan man Andros Townsend stepped up to make his Leeds United debut on Monday against Burnley - after his boots were driven up from London by taxi.

The young midfielder completed his move to the club on New Year's Day and in the haste to complete the formalities and meet up with his new team-mates, he arrived at Thorp Arch minus his boots.

"He borrowed a pair boots to train with the lads on Sunday," explained United boss Simon Grayson.

"I don't know if the training ground at Tottenham was closed or whatever, but they were shipped up by taxi from London on Monday morning for the Burnley game."

The winger made an immediate impression in a Leeds shirt, turning in an exciting debut as United beat the Clarets 2-1 at Elland Road.

"He's an exciting talent," added the boss.

"He's two-footed, he can drive up the pitch, and we were delighted with his effort. He'll only get better from being with us."

As part of the loan deal, Andros is available to feature against Arsenal in the FA Cup third round next Monday.
