United boss Simon Grayson at Leicester

United manager Simon Grayson hailed his side's character and determination after Sunday's 1-0 win at Leicester City.

A stunning strike from Adam Clayton secured Leeds a deserved victory at the King Power Stadium as United bounced back from the midweek drubbing at the hands of Blackpool in some style.

"Leicester is a difficult place to go," said the boss. "They are a good team with some good individuals and were on the back of a good result - and we were coming on the back of a bad result.

"But we showed immense character, we worked hard, we defended well when we had to, we created chances and we felt there was more to come from the first half performance, then we got the goal.

"It was a fantastic performance to come back to after Wednesday and full credit to them. They showed the character and attitude and desire to play for this football club."

The boss also felt his team answered the critics who had questioned their ability to mount a serious promotion challenge in the wake of the 5-0 hammering at the hands of Blackpool.

"I've never questioned my team," he said. "They've always responded with a performance and spirit. Sunday was no different. We played very well as a team, and full credit to them. I've backed them all along and they didn't let me down. It was a great all-round performance.

"Our fans were outstanding as well and we owed them one too."

United now go into the last international break of the year sitting in seventh place in the division, within touching distance of the Play-Off places.

"It was important we 'finished' with a good result," said the boss. "We wouldn't have liked another break on the back of a thumping. Leicester were one of the favourites and a team I've said I think will be up there.

"We're where we want to be and we're looking to go higher. I still think we can finish in the top two and when we people write us off we come back in a positive manner."
