Thompson puts pen to paper with United...
Zac Thompson is the latest Leeds United player to sign a new contract with the club.
The 18-year-old Liverpudlian has signed a deal until 2013 after impressing during his time with the club.
Zac only joined the club's scholarship scheme in January after moving from Everton and was successfully awarded his first professional contract at the end of the season after establishing himself as another young player with potential.
Simon Grayson handed the player his opportunity in pre-season and after impressing, he made his senior debut against Middlesbrough in August, his first start against Doncaster the following week, and was involved in every first team squad until injury struck.
"Zac has made an impression since he's been here," said the United boss.
"He had a good pre-season, he got himself involved in merit, and not only did he play a part, he impressed in what he did and how he went about things.
"Unfortunately, we lost him with an ankle injury at a time when he was in and around things, but hopefully he shouldn't be too far away from stepping things up again."
Zac is one of a number of young players who has emerged quietly during recent months. Fellow teen Charlie Taylor also made his debut while Tom Lees returned from a loan spell at Bury to establish himself in the first, and he was recently awarded with a new contract.
"We like what we've seen with a number of the younger players," said the manager.
"They've grasped their opportunities and they've done well. Young players are always the future of your club and we're pleased to have some youngsters here who are ready to step up and take their chances.
"If I believe young players deserve an opportunity I will give them one."
