Leeds fans at Motherwell

United defender Leigh Bromby hailed the week-long training camp in Scotland as a success as the countdown to the new season continues in earnest.

United trained twice a day at Glasgow University, beat Falkirk 2-0 in midweek, and signed off with a 2-1 win at Motherwell on Saturday.

"It was an enjoyable camp," said Leigh. "It's good to get away for a week and away from any distractions.

"The facilities and pitches have been very good which you can't always guarantee when you go away somewhere in Europe.

"The team spirit from last season has carried on as well - there's not a bad lad amongst us - and the coaches and staff are good in terms of that as well.

"It was also a good start in terms of games, and it was good to see some of the young lads come through. "

Leigh was one of a number of centre-backs in the travelling party. Although Andy O'Brien returned to England with a side strain, Paddy Kisnorbo, Alex Bruce, and Tom Lees were in United's Scottish squad.

"Everyone wants to play," said Leigh. "When I got my chance last season I thought I did well.

"Hopefully I can get a few more starts and it'll be a fight for positions.

"Paddy has done fantastic to get back to the level he has after his injury. He's like a new signing and competition will be high. I'll be fighting 100 per cent for a start because competition is so good."

Goals conceded was the biggest criticism levelled at Leeds last season, and manager Simon Grayson regularly spoke about the need to tighten up and improve in that area.

"We have to address that this season," said Leigh.

"If we hadn't conceded so many goals we would have finished higher up the league. We're working on that and will continue to do that."
