Dave Somma back in training

United manager Simon Grayson has confirmed that striker Davide Somma is set for a lengthy lay-off - but is refusing to put a timescale on the South African international's injury.

Davide missed the tour of Scotland due to a knee injury and scans at the end of the week showed damage to his cruciate ligament. The player had suggested on his Twitter account that he would be out for "five or six months" but the boss says the timescale is open ended.

"He has done his cruciate which is a huge blow to us and to Davide," said the boss.

"We have players who are capable of stepping in, but I'm hugely disappointed for the lad,

"It was an innocuous situation, and I have a lot of sympathy for him because he's worked ever so hard. What sort of timescale nobody knows at this stage because these can be longer or shorter."

Andy O'Brien and Luciano Becchio didn't play a part in the Scotland matches either, along with Fede Bessone, and Grayson says he will know more about their respective injuries on returning to Thorp Arch this week.
