United midfielder on standby for tournament...
United midfielder Jonny Howson is on standby for the England under-21 squad for this summer's UEFA U21 European Championship Final Tournament.
Jonny failed to make Stuart Pearce's 23-man squad for a training camp ahead of the tournament, but the 23-year-old could yet receive a call to join the squad at any time.
The under-21s head to Spain for a training camp before returning to England to play Norway in a warm-up game at Southampton on Sunday June 5 (3pm). The squad then head to Denmark for the tournament.
Jonny won his first under-21 cap earlier this year when he stepped off the substitutes bench in Italy, but injury ruled him out of a second opportunity in March.
Jonny made 50 appearances for United last season and was the only ever present member of Simon Grayson's squad. He also netted a career best haul of 11 goals, including a 15-minute hat-trick in a 4-1 win at Scunthorpe in October.
