Jonny Howson has been named in Stuart Pearce's provisional 40-man squad for this summer's 2011 UEFA European Under-21 Championship in Denmark.

The announcement will round off what has been another excellent season for the 22-year-old Academy product.

Jonny has been captain on a regular basis this season, was named the club's Young Player Of The Year for the second time last weekend, and won his first international call-up in February, when he stepped off the bench for England's under-21 side in Italy.

Howson, 22, made his debut for the Under-21s when he stepped off the bench in a 1-0 defeat in Italy in February. He was called up again in March, but was forced into pulling out due to a hamstring injury.

England Under-21s finished as European Championship runners-up in 2009 and Stuart Pearce's squad will head to Denmark on June 8 to continue their preparations for the two-week tournament.
