Paul Connolly

Defender Paul Connolly will return to his former club on Tuesday night confident that United can bounce back from Saturday's disappointment at Millwall.

The summer signing returned to the starting line-up for the first time since suffering a hamstring injury back in February and he completed 74 minutes before being withdrawn from the action.

"It was nice to get a call and get back into it," said Paul. "It took me eight weeks, it has been a long, hard road, and I got a chance through someone else been injured. It was nice to get back in, but it wasn't a good result so…"

Paul made 72 appearances during a two-year spell at Derby and it will be the first time he has returned to Pride Park since his summer departure.

"My time there was up and down," he said. "There was no middle ground really. We beat Man United one day then lost to 4-1 to Scunthorpe.

"I made some really good friends when I was there and I enjoyed living there, but the football side just didn't work out for me. They're on a sticky patch at the moment and if we can keep the crowd quiet they might turn. It was difficult when I was there sometimes.

"But it's a nice pitch, a snice stadium, and I think we can go there and show what we can do."
