Davide Somma celebrates his equaliser

United striker Davide Somma returned from the high of scoring his first goal in international football to taking a place on the Leeds bench at Bristol City last weekend - but the in-form marksman insists he is happy to be patient.

Somma had scored four goals in five appearances, taking his tally to 11 in 11 starts, prior to jetting off with South Africa last midweek, and he carried on his rich vein of form by bagging his first international goal, during the opening minutes against Kenya.

"It felt great," said Davide. "As a striker you want to score and especially in your second game for your country.

"I want to keep playing for South Africa. It's a great opportunity, they've shown faith in me, and I'm delighted that I scored.

"The atmosphere's great when you play for South Africa. Once you score goals and show you want to be there the crowd start to love you."

It was back to England for Davide where he re-joined his United team-mates on the eve of the clash with Bristol City. He was named among the subs for the game at Ashton Gate, but continues to take everything in his stride.

"The gaffer said I had done a lot of travelling and was a bit tired so it was the best thing." he explained.

"You have to be patient. It's unfortunate if you don't play, but you keep positive. Whoever plays is going to get chances.

"I'm patient and I'll wait for my opportunity. There's games coming up and if you don't play you use other ways to keep sharp and keep fit in training."

Attentions have now turned towards Saturday and a huge Elland Road clash with fellow promotion chasers Norwich City.

Both sides are in the hunt for automatic promotion, and second spot could be up for grabs for the winners this weekend.

"You never know, it could still happen," added Dave. "It's going to be tough and we have to grind it out.

"Second place is the target and Saturday is a huge game. I wasn't involved in the games against Norwich last season, but I know they were tough."
