Alex Bruce at Norwich

Defender Alex Bruce believes the momentum is starting to build after United extended the unbeaten run to five games at Norwich on Saturday.

The 1-1 draw at Carrow Road was enough to keep Simon Grayson's side in fifth place and after an inconsistent start to the season, United are now looking more solid by the week.

"There was always going to be a geling process," said Alex, who joined from Ipswich during the summer.

"There was a big number of players coming in and out, and now we're starting to develop partnerships.

"You can't get carried away because if you do you'll get a slap in the face in this league.

"But on Saturday we showed a good work ethic again and created chances. Every player will tell you when you're playing your momentum gets going and your form comes with it."

United played with flair and a real verve during the first half at Norwich, before digging deep in the second half to ensure a more than deserved point.

"It was a fair result," said Alex. "When you go a goal up you want a clean sheet, but they threw everything at us except the kitchen sink in the second half, and on reflection it was probably a fair result and a good game.

"I used to go there with Ipswich in derby games, the crowd are on top of you and we knew they would come at us in the second half.

"We stood up well - a lot of people said it was a blatant foul for their goal and unfortunately it wasn't given, but sometimes you get those decisions sometimes you don't. Kasper was angry about it.

"On the whole as a performance we did well. It was a solid, gritty performance and with the ball we caused them problems."

Alex also paid tribute to the travelling United fans who were in full voice before, during, and even after the match as they left Carrow Road.

"I was talking to Ian Miller about them afterwards," he added. "It's a hell of a journey, and when you see them and hear them they are incredible. You could hear them outside after the game."
