United defender Aidy White has joined Oldham Athletic on loan until January 3.

The youngster joins the Latics in a bid to gain more experience playing competitive football.

Aidy made his United debut as a 16-year-old under Gary McAllister in August 2008 and has been a member of the first team squad since.

He has made 23 senior appearances, three of which have come this season, and United boss Simon Grayson is hoping the move will be of benefit to both the youngster and the club.

"This is a good opportunity for Aidy to hopefully play some games," said the boss.

"He has been around the squad for a while now, and a loan move will hopefully give him the opportunity to gain more experience by playing competitive games."
