Competition for places pleases manager....
Simon Grayson managed to bring in 11 players as he strengthened his playing squad in an attempt to make an impact on the Championship this season.
Voicing his satisfaction at the way things have gone, he said today: "We have a good squad here now, we have added to it, we have players coming back after injury and we have some really good competition for places.
"It is a settled squad now ready to develop and try to hit the Championship with a few more victories."
That is not to say that there will not be further signings in the future.
"We are looking all the time. We are looking in terms of players who are out of contract, who have had their contracts cancelled before the deadline day, which means they can train with us or other clubs and sign afterwards and the loan market opens soon.
"And we are looking at players for the January transfer window so it is an onward going thing. But, as I say, we have a settled squad here at the moment," he added.
The boss revealed that United had been near to signing another player on the transfer deadline day. "We were close - very close - to bringing in another player but the deal fell at the last hurdle which was unfortunate because I thought he would have been a good signing for us.
"But at the last minute he decided he wanted to stay where he was, which, of course, he was entitled to do," he added.
