Honduran made the most of his chance....
Manager Simon Grayson praised the courage of Honduran international winger Ramon Nunez after the player signed a short term contract with United.
"It took a lot of 'bottle' for him to come over for a trial and give himself an opportunity because I think he had a few other clubs who wanted to sign him. But he wanted to come here and test himself," said the boss.
"He has done well in the time he has been with us. He is lively in training and has a good technique and quality. He has represented Honduras in the World Cup finals and that shows what type of player he is."
"His contract is not really long term but it is an opportunity for us to have an extended look at him - and there is the option to extend the contract in January," he added.
Ramon was delighted to have impressed sufficiently to have earned the contract. "I am excited to be here" he said.
Although he was born in Honduras he went to live in Dallas, Texas at the age of five. "I grew up in the States almost all my life and started my professional football career with FC Dallas then moved back to play in Honduras for a year before going to Mexico where I played for the last year and a half," he explained.
Ramon said he had a couple of opportunities to stay and play in Mexico but wanted to try his luck in Europe. "I know I have come to a better club in Leeds. There is great tradition and I am delighted to be here.
"I know a lot about the club because I looked it up before I came and I know that a lot of great players have gone through the club. It has been very easy to settle in here because everyone has been so welcoming," he added.
However, he realises it won't be easy to force his way into the United side. "My target is to get into the team as soon as possible. I want to be playing games in the starting Xl - as anyone on the team does.
"But I know it will be very difficult for me to get into this Leeds team. They have been on a good run and there are a lot of great players on the field who are doing a great job. I have to do my job on the training field," he added.
Ramos usually plays on the wing. "But my favourite position is playing in the 'hole' behind the striker," he said. "I think that is where a lot of my goals have come from. But every team I have been on I have been able to score some goals and hopefully I can do that here at Leeds," he said.
