A full Kop welcomes the teams out on the opening day of the season

United manager Simon Grayson is keeping his cards close to his chest regarding his first league selection of the season.

The United boss has number of options he is considering for the opening day visit of Derby (5.15pm), but he is giving nothing away.

There is a competition at centre-back where Richard Naylor is fit again after picking up an injury last weekend, and the manager knows he has a real decision to make regarding his goalkeepers.

"Nayls trained on Thursday so he is back with us," confirmed the manager.

"As far as the goalkeepers go, they have both done very well in pre-season and we have two good goalkeepers here.

"I will tell the players and other people will find out an hour before when the team-sheets are exchanged.

"A lot of players have staked claims in pre-season and those that don't start the game on Saturday know they must be ready because opportunities will come."

Derby finished in the lower reaches of the Championship last term. Their side includes prolific former Leeds striker Rob Hulse and veteran midfielder Robbie Savage.

Going back almost 40 years this was viewed as one of the more attractive fixtures in the calendar, but that bitter rivalry of the late 1960s and 1970s has dissapated over time.

"It's a great game to be involved in," said the Leeds boss.

"There are connections and there's history, but we seem to have that with most teams we come up against so this isn't any different. The big thing is, is that it's the start of our Championship season. This is why we worked so hard and we're not going to give it up lightly.

"Derby have changed their squad around a little bit and re-shaped it.

"They have a few injuries but what they out out will be a good test and good basis on the opening day.

"They have some quality players. I know Robbie Savage of old, Rob Hulse is a good player, and they have plenty of talent.

"We've had them watched three or four times, so whatever team we put out we'll look to work their weaknesses and concentrate on what we're doing."
