Fede Bessone

Summer signing Federico Bessone is hoping to use Saturday's pre-season friendly clash with Wolves as another stepping stone towards securing a first team spot on the opening day of the campaign.

The former Swansea man figured in Slovakia, but his first UK appearance for the club came on a disappointing night at Bury when the League Two side scored four goals without reply.

Since then, United smashed Hartlepool 5-0 and won 3-1 against SK Brann on Tuesday with Fede making a good impression during the course of his first 90 minutes in a Leeds shirt.

"I'd played 60 minutes in my first game in Slovakia and didn't feel right after that," he explained.

"I understand if people weren't happy with my performance at Bury and I'd like to say sorry, but those fans that saw the game in Norway, I wanted to show them I was better than that and I hope they were happier.

"I played my first 90 on Tuesday and I felt fine and I feel ready.

"Will I start against Derby? You never know. The only thing I know is I have to improve and keep working.

"If the gaffer gives me a chance I have to take my chance."

Saturday will see Fede make his Elland Road debut against Wolves and he is looking forward to coming up against Premier League opposition on home soil for the first time.

"It's going to be strange," he said. "It will be my first game and I'm really looking forward to it.

"Its a good game for us and we will see how good we are. It'll be good for us to see how we are going to play."
