Neil Kilkenny

Aussie midfielder Neil Kilkenny is setting his sights high for the new npower Championship season.

Killa is currently enjoying his first full pre-season as a Leeds player and is counting down towards the start of the new campaign.

His two previous summers have been wrecked by injury and an Olympic call-up that saw his involvement reduced, and the former Arsenal trainee firmly believes the week in Slovakia has laid the foundations for a good season.

"It's been good out here," he said.

"We've been away for a week and it's been good working hard.

"It's been hot, but it's good training in hot weather and that will help us be fit to push on to the Premiership.

"There's no point in having no hopes when you go into a season because you want to do as well as you can.

"We have young hungry players at the right age and hopefully we can do it.

"We're looking to do well. You saw what happened last year with Blackpool and hopefully we will do well too."

Killa played 45 minutes of the opening game against Ruzomberok, when he impressed in a strong second half performance.

He was also handed the captain's armband for the first time since his arrival in January 2008.

"It's an honour being captain and I enjoyed it the other night," he added.

"I feel I am vocal on the pitch and I thought we did well in the second half."
