Hughesy's delight at Elland Road extension...
Andrew Hughes was delighted to extend his stay at Leeds United this week, and admits he is excited about the future.
The 32-year-old has signed a new one-year deal and is relishing the prospect of playing a part as the club looks to tackle the Championship next term.
"I'm very happy," a delighted Hughesy told Yorkshire Radio.
"It didn't take long to sort out and I am really pleased the club wanted to keep me for another season.
"The manager makes all the decisions, hopefully he knows what I bring, and I want to be a part of what he wants to do next season.
"Without a doubt, it's the best club I've ever played for, the best place I've ever lived, and everything about the club, the fans, the people who work there...
"I'm honoured to say I play for Leeds United."
Hughesy is one of just four players remaining who started our first ever League One game at Tranmere Rovers back in August 2007. He signed on the eve of that trip to Prenton Park and made 106 of his 126 appearances for the club in League One.
"Everyone has worked hard to get out of the league," he said.
"Not everyone sees the hard work people put in, particularly the people behind the scenes.
"I won promotion at Reading by one point - we did that at Brentford on the last day - and the next season we made the Play-Offs.
"If we can carry that momentum on, make a good start, and push up the league, who knows what we can achieve.
"The manager will obviously look to build and bring players in who he thinks will add to the atmosphere and the quality. He will do what he needs to do.
"We played Watford last season in the Carling Cup and matched them, and we have to match teams for endeavour and spirit. That's what the manager asks for. He asks for 100 per cent. If the fans see that, it's a good start.
"If we get our work ethic right and our quality, with the Snodgrasses, Kilkennys, and Becchios, will shine through.
"I'm sure new players will come in as well will push us and you want that. It's all part of going forward."
Hughesy has proved himself a versatile character during his three seasons, having played all across the midfield, and on both sides of the defence.
"I proved to myself I can do a job, and I feel I have a lot to give," he added.
"There's always people who doubt you and comment on you, but all I'm bothered about is what I can do and if that's good enough for the manager and the fans that's good enough for me."
