United goalkeeper Casper Ankergren

Departing goalkeeper Casper Ankergren reflected on his time at Leeds United by declaring it was "mission accomplished."

It was announced last week that Casper would be departing the club when his contract expires next summer, ending his three-and-a-half year association with the club.

"I've really enjoyed my time at Leeds," Casper told leedsunited.com.

"It's been a pleasure to play for the club and I'll miss a lot of people, not just the players, but there's a lot of people behind the scenes, and I'll miss them all.

"The fans made a massive impact on me too. They are very passionate, and the support can be amazing.

"Without those 25,000 the club couldn't move forward and you can't ask for much more when you look at the numbers they turn out."

Casper initially joined the club on loan in January 2007 before making his move permanent when he became our first post-administration signing later that summer.

He leaves having made 142 appearances for the club. This term, Shane Higgs started the season in goal, but Casper still made 39 appearances in all competitions, including the FA Cup third round victory at Manchester United.

"When I look back that first full season was really special for me," he recalled.

"We started with the 15 points and it was amazing the way we came back from that and got to Wembley. It was fantastic to play there, but the result was disappointing.

"This season was also special with the games against Manchester United and Tottenham, and getting promoted.

"I still feel I played a big part in us winning promotion, and in many ways, it feels like it's mission accomplished.

"I'm happy that we did it, and I have a promotion with Leeds United on my CV.

"Now, the club is moving on and I'll move on."

Having originally joined from Brondby, the 30-year-old admits he is keeping his options open when asked about whether he will return to Denmark or continue in the English league.

Casper departs with the best wishes of everyone at Elland Road.
