Shane Higgs celebrates

Goalkeeper Shane Higgs could be forgiven for departing for his summer holidays dreaming of completing a hat-trick with Leeds United next season.

Shane was a promotion winner with Wolves in 2009 and he made it back-to-back successes when United clinched promotion back to the Championship at Elland Road on Saturday.

While the former Cheltenham goalkeeper was a spectator from the subs bench when Wolves won a place in the Premiership 12 months ago, he featured 19 times in United's League One campaign and would have made more appearances had he not been sidelined with a thigh injury for the biggest part.

"Last year I wasn't playing at Wolves when we won promotion, so to play a few games and to win promotion again is something words can't explain," he said.

"Maybe I'm a lucky omen! We'll see what happens next season now.

"It was difficult to put into words afterwards what it felt like.

"I've been to a few fans forums this season and I knew what it meant to the fans for us to get up on Saturday. They didn't want the Play-Offs again.

"Halfway through on Saturday I was thinking it wasn't going to be, but we fought back. We had a mountain to climb, but Jonny's goal turned the game around and the crowd and the atmosphere was electric from there. I knew we would do it then."

Shane arrived at Elland Road last summer to provide competition for Casper Ankergren, but after impressing in pre-season, he started the campaign and after returning from a prolonged thigh problem, he ended the campaign in goal.

"Everyone wanted this right from day one," he added.

"Automatic promotion was our goal at the start of the season and to achieve it...

"To do it in front of a full-house like that was amazing. Next season we'll get crowds like that on a regular basis.

"I didn't actually play in the Championship last season for Wolves so I'm really looking forward to it."
