United on top for third successive year...
Leeds United will depart League One as the best supported club for the third successive year.
Saturday's Elland Road crowd of 38,324 was the highest of the season in League One - only Newcastle United bettered it in the entire Football League - and it took the club's average gate to 24,817, the best in the division.
League One champions Norwich City came in second place with an average of 24,755, their highest for over 30 years.
United's average crowd, and that of Norwich, also bettered all but three clubs in the Championship. Only Newcastle (43387), Derby County (29230), and Sheffield United (25120) boasted higher average gates.
And our gates were also higher than Europa Cup finalists Fulham, fellow Premier League clubs Bolton, Burnley, and Wigan, and Hull and Portsmouth, who were both relegated from the top division.
Championship clubs will also be rubbing their hands at the prospect of our vast away support returning to their grounds again next season.
Once again, our away following was the highest in League One, and due to restrictive ticket allocations, was only bettered by a small number in the Championship, including Newcastle United.
With allocations of less than 1,000 at Brighton and Hartlepool and allocations of around 3,000 tickets rare in League One, our travelling fans should have more opportunity to attend matches on the road next term.
