Club exercises option in midfielder's contract...
Midfielder Jonny Howson is not only celebrating his first promotion as a Leeds United player - the former Academy youngster has also secured an additional year on his Elland Road contract.
Jonny signed a new three-year deal in the summer of 2008, but following our promotion to the Championship last weekend, the club exercised an option in the midfielder's contract to extend his current deal by a further year, taking him to the summer of 2012.
A delighted Jonny told LUTV: "I've grown up supporting this club, I've loved my time here, and extending it by another season is fantastic.
"I think when you know you're wanted as a player you tend to play better yourself. I just enjoy playing football and doing something I love every day.
"Getting back up to the Championship will be a better test for me in terms of football, players you play with and against. I'm always looking to better myself.
"The years have flown by here and hopefully in a couple of years I'll be answering the same questions again."
Saturday was an emotional afternoon for the lifelong Leeds fan.
After stepping off the bench, Jonny scored with almost his first touch of the game to level the score against Bristol Rovers and within a matter of minutes of Jermaine Beckford had made it 2-1 with the goal that clinched promotion.
Jonny was one of the last players to leave the pitch after being mobbed at the final whistle, and it was a day to remember for a player who progressed through the youth ranks and made his debut during our last season in the Championship.
"I was stuck for words," conceded the 21-year-old. "The adrenaline and the buzz took over. I was just so glad we did it.
"It's hard to put it into words what it felt like. Coming down to the last game and the way it panned out...
"That doubt starts to kick in. I was sat on the bench thinking we might not do it, but you never know what's around the corner.
"As the song goes we've had our ups and downs.
"In my three years we've had a relegation and two Play-Off defeats, and it's nice to end the season on a high.
"With no respect to this league, with the players we have, we should get out of it. Now we'll look forward to next season and be ready."
Jonny figured in 45 of the 46 league games this season, but had found himself on the subs bench for the final games of the campaign.
"Watching is the worst thing as a player because you can't affect it," he added.
"When I came on we were 1-0 down. When you come on you want to impress and it just fell nicely and I hit it."
