United manager Simon Grayson is refusing to rule any of the promotion chasers out of the quest to take second place in League One - despite Leeds strengthening the grip on Saturday.
The 4-1 win over MK Dons not only kept Leeds in second, but also ensured parity in goal difference with third-placed Millwall, who remain a point behind after they beat Leyton Orient 2-1 at the Den.
Swindon are four points behind Leeds in fourth spot and Charlton occupy fifth place, five points behind. Both Swindon and Charlton have a vastly inferior goal difference, and everyone has just two games to play now.
"Until it's mathamatically impossible you can't rule anyone out," said Grayson.
"There's four of us in with a shout, and we're toe to toe with Millwall as it stands.
"It's a simple equation in that if our results are better than Millwall's we will get promoted.
"The ideal scenario is we go to Charlton on Saturday and win, Millwall lose at Tranmere and we come back here promoted for our last game."
Grayson's men signalled their intentions in some style at Elland Road on Saturday with a 4-1 mauling of MK Dons.
The visitors had three men sent-off in the game - two coming late on - and after goals from Luciano Becchio and Max Gradel had given Leeds the lead, Jermaine Beckford stepped off the bench to finish the job off with two goals in the final 10 minutes.
"It was a game that had everything," said the boss. "You'd got goals, sending offs, a penalty, and plenty of goalmouth incidents.
"We'd started well and really took the game to them. We did concede a sloppy goal, but we worked the ball around well after that and that told in the end.
"We could have had eight, but you can't complain when you win 4-1. We kept going, and it was important in terms of the goal difference."
