Yorkshire Regiment at Elland Road

Once again, we welcome a number of our heroes from the Yorkshire Regiment to Elland Road on Saturday.

Legend Peter Lorimer will be presenting medals to members of the Regiment during the half-time interval of the MK Dons and we are delighted to welcome them to Elland Road once again.

It is the second time this season we have held a medal ceremony for the Regiment as we already have a strong relationship with them. Only recently, our players attended a training day at the barracks in Strensall.

Major Simon Routh told us: "The Yorkshire Regiment is the county infantry regiment of Yorkshire. It consists of 4 Battalions of Soldiers, Three Regular and One Territorial, who are recruited from Yorkshire, North East and the rest of the UK

"We recruit soldiers with a strong sense of unity and high sporting prowess. The Regiment is founded on more than 300 years of Yorkshire Warrior tradition and united by common values, history and home. We represent all that is best in the Army, in professionalism, on operations for career for sport and for family. We are the best because our soldiers are the best.

"The soldiers being recognized at the match are being presented with operation service medals have spent the past 6 months in Sangin province Afghanistan carrying out a number of roles in an exacting environment.'

"Our ethos reflects a sense of belonging to Yorkshire and the common values of honesty, fairness, grit and pride."
