United goalkeeper Shane Higgs on promotion race...
Goalkeeper Shane Higgs is hoping Leeds United can avoid a final-day promotion decider by winning the next two games.
United remain in pole position to take the second automatic promotion place, despite Saturday's defeat at Gillingham, and the club's season will be decided by the outcome of the remaining games against MK Dons, Charlton Athletic, and Bristol Rovers.
"There's three to go and we'd have taken this at the start of the season so we've got to dig in," said Shane.
"Definite promotion is three wins, but two wins could be enough. You never know at this stage.
"You don't want it to go to the wire. If we can win our next two it could finish it off.
"If we'd have won Saturday we'd have had that cushion, but it's never that easy."
United's hopes of moving clear were destroyed inside the opening 33 minutes at Gillingham on Saturday when the home side rattled three without reply past a shell-shocked Leeds.
United did pull two goals back, but it was the opening period that was to prove costly for Simon Grayson's side.
"We didn't start the game right," said Shane.
"We knew they had a good record there, we'd had all the talk but didn't seem to turn up.
"I look at myself and you ask 'what can I do?' The first two were good deliveries that maybe we should have stopped and the third was a fluke.
"We were disppointed with the way we started and the fact we lost, but we're still second, we're a point ahead and we have to crack on from that."
