Gary McSheffrey in action against Colchester

Gary McSheffrey bagged his first double in a Leeds United shirt at Elland Road on Wednesday as the reserves eased to a 3-0 win against Bradford City.

The on-loan marksman struck twice in the second half after the hard working Mike Grella had fired United ahead earlier in the contest.

It was a comfortable enough win for Neil Thompson's side who took their goals tally to 12 in the last three outings.

While McSheffrey took the honours, the game saw fellow Premier League loan men Shane Lowry, and Sanchez Watt handed starting roles while Tresor Kandol made his first appearance since serving a four-match suspension following his dimissal at Norwich.

Kandol and McSheffrey both headed wide early in the contest before Grella opened the scoring on 29 minutes. Kandol had a hand in a goal that saw the popular American show good skill before finishing well to leave Bradford goalkeeper Matthew Convey with no chance.

Leeds finished the first half in control, McSheffrey going close again, and Bradford went in fortunate to be trailing to by just the one goal at half-time.

Grella almost doubled the advantage after the interval and Kandol was cursing his luck after blasting a volley against a visiting defender - but it was 2-0 before the hour-mark.

McSheffrey, who has already scored one special goal in a Leeds shirt, delivered a superb dipping strike from 25 yards to double the advantage.

And, it was almost 3-0 moments later, courtesy of more Premier League class. First, Watt was denied by the leg of Convey, then the Arsenal youngster was foiled again when the Bradford goalkeeper made a good save.

Alan Martin did make one late save for Leeds, but the win was sealed in the final moments when McSheffrey bagged his second goal of the night with a delightful lob.

United: Martin, Turner, White, Hatfield, Watson, Lowry (Booker 62), McSheffrey, Payne, Kandol, Grella (N Turner 75), Watt (Baxendale 76). Subs (not used): Jones, Birbeck.
