Simon Grayson salutes the fans at Yeovil

United manager Simon Grayson was delighted to see his side return to winning ways at Yeovil on Monday - and was quick to praise his players for their response.

United had suffered an embarrassing home defeat at the hands of Swindon Town less than 48 hours before the Yeovil game - but, led by two-goal skipper Richard Naylor, the losing run came to an end with a 2-1 success at Huish Park and the promotion challenge was re-ignited.

"We had to try and win whatever it takes," said Grayson.  "We knew we could go there and win the game, and we had to do that.

"If we'd had won by four or five we'd have taken that - in the end we hung on a bit but we'll have that.

"We could have scored more than we did, but we shot ourselves in the foot late on and gave them a bit of impetus.

"We've been looking for goals from different parts of the pitch. Set pieces are always a threat and Nayls got his rewards.

"It was about standing up and being counted and he was at the forefront of it all. The players have been criticised and put under pressure, but we're not getting carried away.

"We said before the game 'you have to win seven'. That's one out of the way. There's six more to go now.

"There is a unity and they did hurt after the weekend - that's why I played the majority of the same side. It shows that they're sticking together."

The game marked the 10th anniversary of the murders of Chris Loftus and Kevin Speight and, while a number of fans paid their respects at Elland Road on Monday morning, the game at Yeovil was preceded by a minute's silence and was an emotional occasion.

"Saturday against Swindon was a poignant game, but this was the anniversary and it's an emotional feeling for the club and the fans," added the boss.

"It is a football match and lives are more important, but hopefully everyone will be happy with the three points."
