Elland Road was an emotional venue for the visit of Swindon Town with the game being preceded by a minute's silence in memory of Chris Loftus and Kevin Speight.

Minute's silence ahead of Swindon game

Richard Naylor and Jonny Howson also laid wreaths at either of the stadium as a mark of respect to the two Leeds fans who lost their lives in Istanbul 10 years ago.

Given the emotive occasion, and the fact that the biggest league crowd of 2010 had turned out, Leeds started well and immediately had Swindon on the back foot.

Swindon returned with two former Leeds players in their ranks and one of those - goalkeeeper Dave Lucas - was called into action for the first time on 15 minutes when he got down well to a low drive from Micky Doyle.

Visiting defender Scott Cuthbert was also called upon to make an early clearance under pressure from Shane Lowry after a good ball in from the right.

Swindon did fashion out an opening on 20 minutes when former Leeds schoolboy Danny Ward curled a shot wide of the mark.

It took a goal-line clearance to by Stephen Darby to deny Howson on 24 minutes when his cross was deflected over Lucas and towards goal.

At the other end, Billy Paynter had a shot deflected wide of the mark after quick break by the visitors.

And moments before the half-hour, Andrew Hughes was presented with a great opening, but Lucas reacted well to make the save from close range.

Hughes was involved again with a tremendous cross from the right, but Doyle's downward header bounced back up and over the bar.

Moments later, Lucas made a great save to deny Jermaine Beckford as Leeds continued to dominate the contest. Beckford also had a shot saved while Mike Grella was denied by some good defending.

But it was Swindon who stole the lead moments before half-time. Jon-Paul McGovern delivered a cross and Paynter's first time shot beat Shane Higgs with assistance from the upright.

It was a major blow after Leeds had been by far the better side during the opening period, yet it took a good save from Higgs to prevent a second goal in stoppage time when he somehow denied Paynter from close range.

Three minutes into the second half it was 2-0 though, Paynter scoring again this time with the aid of a deflection.

And it was soon 3-0. Darby and Payner linked up well down the right and Charlie Austin headed home from close range.

It looked like game over with over half-an-hour remaining, although United did fashion out another opening on 69 minutes when Robert Snodgrass lifted a shot over the top.

That was the last real meaningful action of what had been a disappointing afternoon for Grayson and his troops. Swindon's victory was enough to lift them to second as Leeds slipped to fourth ahead of the Easter Monday trip to Yeovil.
