Paul Dickov in training

Striker Paul Dickov is relishing the final laps of the promotion race - after playing his part in a 5-0 win for the reserves on Wednesday.

Dickov scored his first Elland Road goal in a 5-0 demolition of Lincoln City, a game that saw Max Gradel bag a 12-minute hat-trick.

Ben Parker and Shane Higgs returned from injury and there were strong performances from other senior members of the squad.

"It was good," Dickov told LUTV

"The main thing for a lot of the lads was to get 90 minutes under our belts. It's about match fitness. I'll be all the better for playing 90 as will all the lads.

"Ben Parker and Shane came back and when you look at the team-sheet it shows what a strong squad we have.

"A lot of players showed the manager they are pushing and working hard to get in the squad.

"I know people sometimes say results don't matter that much in reserve team football but it was a good performance."

The performance strengthened the watching Simon Grayson's hand as he prepares his side for the final 10 games of the campaign.

"We have a massive game coming up against Millwall, but it's in our hands and I think it's great," said Dickov.

"We're in a good position. We have a lot of tough games, but the teams below us have to match and better our results.

"I'm not looking over my shoulder. There's been a strong mentality, the club wouldn't be in this position without that.

"We're second, five points clear with 10 to go, it's a great position.

" We are a good team, we have nothing to be scared of, and there's no reason why we can't beat Millwall here and go on from there.

"I can see what talent is here and I know the lads want to work hard. I wouldn't be as confident if I hadn't seen that, but you saw in the reserves on Wednesday what we have here."
