United youngsters in Dubai

Under-18s coach Neil Redfearn hailed the club's trip to Dubai as an "outstanding experience."

A Leeds United representative side finished runners-up in the Emirates Airlines Dubai Sevens tournament last weekend after overcoming the likes of AC Milan and Arsenal to reach the final.

The 15-man squad, which largely comprised of youngsters, overcame Milan, Celtic, and Brondby in the group stage before eventually losing out to Olympiacos in the final.

"It was an outstanding tournament to be invited to and the lads acquitted themselves really well," said Redfearn.

"We finished top of our group and on the Saturday we beat Blackburn, beat Arsenal 1-0 in the semi-finals, and the final proved just a bridge too far.

"But I have to say the standard and quality of opposition was terrific and we did fantastically well.

"You could see the lads visibly grow in confidence throughout as they went from one stage to the next. The total experience should stand them in really good stead.

"It was a fantastic learning experience for them and one I hope we can repeat again.

"We gave a fantastic account of ourselves and it's promoting Leeds United overseas which is a fantastic thing.

"The lads were professional throughout. We took a team there to gain experience and perform to their best and they did that."
