Simon Grayson watches on at Southampton

Manager Simon Grayson says his sole focus is on Leeds United crossing the League One finishing line in the automatic promotion places before May 8.

With 10 games remaining, United are five points clear of third-placed Charlton, six clear of fourth-placed Millwall, and are seven points behind leaders Norwich City.

United have won just three league games since the turn of the year, but will go into Monday's game against Millwall on the back of a run of just one defeat in six.

"Winning promotion is never easy but if you grind out results and keep chipping away then you'll get what you deserve," said the boss.

"This is probably one of the hardest leagues to get out of. People had us written off as having it sewn up at one stage, but things don't always work out like that.

"You've got us, Norwich, Charlton and Southampton who are all ex-Premiership teams, plus you've got Colchester who have been pressing and the likes of Millwall and Swindon are fighting as well.

"Some teams have had indifferent results - ourselves included - and others like Norwich and Millwall are enjoying a great run.

"There's still 10 games to go and there's going to be plenty more twists and turns for everyone.

"Everyone would love to race over the finishing line and be done with six or seven games to go but it doesn't matter how you get there.

"I don't want to rely on other teams to get us promoted, though.  I want to win the next four or five games and leave it in our own hands."

Monday's Elland Road clash with Millwall is being billed as another big game with the visitors having moved within six points of Leeds, following a great run.

Grayson added: "People always say 'this is a big game because...' or 'that's a big game because...'

"They're all big games. That might be a cliche, but every game is important and your next game is the most important.

"In our case, it's Millwall. We will have a had a full week after Southampton and we'll be fully prepared."
