Andrew Carter and Peter Lorimer

Elland Road legend, Peter Lorimer was at Morrisons Kirkstall store earlier this week to sign up to the England 2018 FIFA World Cup™ bid, and to encourage the people of Leeds to show their support for the bid by adding their signatures too.

Lorimer was joined at the store by Cllr Andrew Carter who led the Leeds' bid to be a host city.

Morrisons is launching a campaign to collect more than 2m signatures in its stores across England giving supporters the opportunity to back the bid.

This will help demonstrate the strength of public enthusiasm for England to host the tournament, and to FIFA who will decide its destination in December 2010.

Anyone in Leeds wishing to sign up to the bid can visit any of the following Morrisons stores to show their support: Kirkstall / Bramley (Swinnow Rd) / Horsforth / Hunslet / Merrion Centre / Morley / Rothwell / Yeadon.

Mark Gunter, Group Retail Director at Morrisons, said: "We're sure that our customers would be delighted if the World Cup came to England in 2018. With our sporting store colleagues in Leeds we are determined to demonstrate popular support for England's bid by delivering more than two million signatures, showing FIFA the country's passion and enthusiasm for hosting the world's biggest football spectacle."
