Simon Grayson thanks the fans at Bristol Rovers

Opportunity is knocking again for Leeds United on Tuesday night when the trip to Tranmere Rovers offers up the chance to pull five clear points clear in the promotion spots in League One.

Victory for Simon Grayson's men at Prenton Park would give United a cushion over third-placed Charlton and, following Colchester's 0-0 draw with Brighton on Monday evening, would take Leeds nine points clear of fourth place.

It's also a chance for Leeds to narrow the gap on leaders Norwich to four points, with the two sides still to meet at Carrow Road.

"Everyone looks at clawing back the gap and pulling away from Charlton," said the manager.

"We're looking at Norwich and we're looking at keeping those sides behind us.

"But, equally, we know it will be a difficult game. Tranmere are coming off a fantastic result against Southampton on Saturday and they need points to get away from relegation, but we know we can go there and win if we show our ability.

"We have to turn our performances into winning results. It's nearly things at this moment in time - nearly winning at Hartlepool and Leyton Orient.

"We're not far away and we're working hard. I watched Saturday's game again and I was pleased with much of what we did, but we gave them the first goal..."

Prenton Park was the unlikely setting for one of the club's most recent memorable away days when Tresor Kandol scored 'that' goal to secure a 2-1 win in our first League One game when we started with the 15-point sanction.

Last season the trip ended in a 2-1 reverse, despite Enoch Showunmi opening the scoring, but a first ever midweek league trip to Tranmere will see a decent crowd at Prenton Park.

"It's a decent place to play," added Grayson. "We'll have a fantastic following and after Saturday they should have a decent crowd.

"There should be a decent atmosphere and we have to reward our fans with a performance and a result."
