Leeds United reserves suffered a second successive league defeat of the season on Wednesday after going down 2-0 at home to Huddersfield Town.

Two second half goals proved decisive at Elland Road in a game that saw goalkeeper Alan Martin controversially dismissed shortly before half-time.

Arsenal youngster Rhema Obed made an impressive appearance at the back for Leeds and he was joined by fellow trialist Jordan Hibbert, who featured for more than an hour on the left side.

The pivotal moment in the game came when Martin was red carded for bringing down Aidan Chippindale, when the referee adjudged the United goalkeeper to be the last man.

Mike Whitwell was immediately sacrificed for replacement goalkeeper Ryan Jones and the numerical advantage was to count against United as the game wore on.

Both Andy Robinson, early on, and Davide Somma had opportunities for Leeds, but it was Huddersfield who made the extra man count early in the second half when the ball broke to Chippindale after a challenge by Obed and the striker converted the chance.

Moments later, Chippindale hit a post and when Theo Robinson knocked home the rebound, the visitors were denied by an offside flag.

Robinson went on to miss a couple of decent chances for the visitors, one lifted over the top and one went wide, but he did have a hand in Huddersfield's second goal late on when Chris Atkinson effectively put the game beyond doubt.

United were dogged in the second period - Robinson and Somma worked hard - but chances were at a premium as Neil Thompson's side suffered a first home defeat of the season.

United: A Martin, Obed, L Turner, S Jones (Payne 82), Darville, Watson, Robinson, Hatfield, Somma, Whitwell (R Jones 40), Hibbert (Booker 72). Subs:  Baxendale, N Turner.
