United manager Simon Grayson is looking to see his players return to form at Elland Road on Saturday by getting back to winning ways in League One.
Grayson's men lost top spot last weekend with Norwich moving into pole position, but United are in second spot and the boss is keen to re-claim the leadership.
Saturday's opponents Colchester are well-placed in the league and Aidy Boothroyd's side go into the game on the back of a 2-0 win against MK Dons in midweek.
"This is a big game for us because it's the next one and big because of the situation we're in," said the United boss.
"We know it's going to be a different type of game. Aidy has a team working hard with a different style of football and it'll be a tough battle.
"I'm sure they'll be aware of what we've been doing and what we can do so it should be a good game.
"I suppose they will feel its a good time to play us, but we've just gone a year unbeaten at Elland Road in the league and we want to extend that.
"We had a performance the other night which wasn't what we wanted, so we're looking for a positive result.
"It's a game we feel we can win and close the gap on Norwich."
It's United's FA Cup heroics that have grabbed the headlines over the past month, but United haven't won since beating Manchester United at Old Trafford and followed last weekend's draw at Tottenham with a 3-0 loss at Swindon in midweek.
"Off the back of those performances it can be difficult to go from that high to reality," conceded the manager.
"It can be hard to the back to the levels of bread and butter games, but that's no excuse.
"The other night it wasn't that we had a group who didn't try or didn't put it in, it just didn't happen, and these things do happen over the course of a season."
