United defender enjoys his return to action...
Leeds United defender Ben Parker was quick to pay tribute to the Elland Road physio department for nursing him through the toughest five months of his career.
The 22-year-old returned to action for the first time since August on Tuesday when he played a part as United's reserve side hammered Scunthorpe United 6-1 at Elland Road.
It was Ben's first game back since undergoing hip surgery - he has been sidelined since the opening day of the season - and our former Academy product was delighted to be back in action.
"I was pretty tired, but it was fantastic to be back," said Ben.
"Some days it seemed like this day wouldn't come, but the physios have put in so much hard work I've got them to thank really.
"I didn't realise it's been five months, but it has been a long time and you do feel a bit on the side, but it's great to be back. Now I need a few more reserve games and hopefully I can push towards the team again.
"There are times when you do think everything is against you and you won't see days like this, but the physios were brilliant. Every time I had a down moment they put an arm around me. The lads have kept my spirits high as well."
Ben is now setting his sights on building up his fitness again in the hope of challenging for the left-back spot. Andrew Hughes has enjoyed a terrific campaign in the left-back role, Aidy White is also pushing hard for a place, and Ben knows competition will be tough.
"I'm just glad to be back playing," said Ben.
"I've only been training a few weeks now and it's a case of building my fitness up now.
"I want to be back Saturday - but that won't happen!
"All I can do is work hard in training and the reserves and hope to catch the manager's eye.
"There's a lot of Tuesday/Saturdays over the next weeks so there's plenty of games coming up."
