Simon Grayson gives his Southampton verdict...
Manager Simon Grayson praised his players for going back to the future to overcome the challenge of in-form Southampton at Elland Road on Saturday.
A Robert Snodgrass goal secured victory against the Saints at Elland Road, but it was the overall team performance that left the manager purring.
"From the first whistle to the end we were outstanding," said the boss. "We competed and battled when we had to.
"They are a good team with some good players - we knew what we were up against and we got what we deserved.
"We asked them to get back to where they were a couple of weeks ago, getting in peoples faces and showing good energy, and we did that.
"We didn't allow them to create anything and there were some big performances.
"A lot of work goes un-noticed from people like Micky Doyle. Kisnorbo and Naylor were leaders, and the likes of Andy Hughes and Leigh Bromby were outstanding."
One piece of work which couldn't have gone un-noticed was the winning goal by Snodgrass. It was a superb strike by the Scot and his manager said: "It's a goal that deserved to win any football match, and we deserved to win it."
The boss also admitted he was disappointed by the reaction of striker Jermaine Beckford, who went straight down the tunnel after being substituted during the second half.
"I'm disappointed by his reaction," he said. "Any decision I make is for the best of the club.
"It wasn't his day, and I'm not afraid to take my leading goalscorer off if I think it will benefit what we are doing.
"We'll speak about it on Monday. It happens at a lot of clubs we'll deal with it internally. It just wasn't his day on Saturday."
