Max Gradel and Adie White celebrate the late winner

Leeds United manager Simon Grayson shrugged off a frustrating performance against Leyton Orient on Tuesday, by insisting: "It's the result that matters most."

After scoring 11 goals in the previous three league games, United found Orient a tougher nut to crack at Elland Road, but Grayson's men were rewarded for their desire and perseverance when Max Gradel struck the only goal of the game in the final moments.

"We've played a lot better and won," said the manager.

"Ultimately even though the performance wasn't very good, in a few weeks time people will look at the stats and see we won 1-0, and that's what counts.

"Orient played well and I feel a bit for Geraint because they stuck to their task and had some chances, but we won the game.

"We have a group who keep going right to the end and don't kow when they haven't won.

"When you can keep clean sheets it's an opportunity to win matches because of the quality we have that can win us games."

After dominating the latter stages of the game, it took a piece of magic from loan man Gradel to finally unlock the door with a wonderful strike worthy of winning any match.

"Max is lively," added the boss. "He gets crosses and shots in, and he's made a big impact.

"He's an infectious character and we're delighted we have him.

"He raised us when he came on, so did Adie White, and it was a fantastic win."
