Returning striker finds the target...
Striker Luciano Becchio announced his return to fitness by scoring the opening goal in Leeds United reserves 2-1 win at Lincoln City on Wednesday.
Becchio seized on poor free-kick from Lincoln goalkeeper Paul Musselwhite before lobbing the ball over a home defender into an empty goal to give United the advantage on 27 minutes.
Rene Howe levelled matters from the penalty, but Davide Somma bagged his second successive goal for the reserves to restore the advantage on 41 minutes when he latched on to a looping ball before delivering a good finish.
There was little else to excite the sparse crowd, but Somma did have a couple of opportunities to further United's advantage.
Reserve team coach Neil Thompson was pleased to see his side pick up the win that keeps them on the top of the league, while the management were also delighted to see Jason Crowe join Becchio in the comeback stakes, both players completing the full 90 minutes.
Alan Sheehan, Rui Marques, Paul Huntington, and Andy Robinson were the other senior players to feature for the full game at Sincil Bank.
United: Martin, Darville, Sheehan, Crowe, Marques, Huntington, Hatfield, Falkingham, Becchio, Somma, Robinson. Subs: Whitwell, R Jones, S Jones, Watson, L Turner.
