Everyone connected with Leeds United...
Everyone connected with Leeds United would like to send our best wishes to Cardiff City midfielder Stephen McPhail.
Our former Academy graduate revealed at the weekend that he has been diagnosed with cancer after having a lump removed from his neck.
A statement issued by Cardiff City confirmed: "Cardiff City midfielder Stephen McPhail has been diagnosed with stage one malt lymphoma, previously known as a pseudo lymphoma.
"Treatment is expected to last for three weeks, with a return to playing football by January 2010."
Leeds United chairman Ken Bates said: "I am sure I speak for all Leeds fans when we wish him well, successful treatment, and a return to full health."
The 29-year-old Irishman started his career at Leeds where he progressed through the Academy system.
After making his debut in a 1-0 defeat at Leicester City in February 1998, Stephen went on to make 107 appearances for the club before moving on to Barnsley in the summer of 2004.
Afer two years at Barnsley, Stephen moved to South Wales to join Cardiff City.
