Grayson delighted with Trophy progress...
United manager Simon Grayson was delighted to see his side make further progress in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy at Elland Road on Tuesday.
United beat Grimsby Town 3-1 to set up a potential Northern Area Semi-Final clash with Accrington Stanley, Bradford City, or Carlisle United.
An own goal started the rout for Leeds against the Mariners before strikes from Neil KIlkenny and Jermaine Beckford effectively sealed the game early in the second half.
"It was a half-decent performance," said the boss. "We did what we had to do, but they did well and limited us at times.
"We set out to get through, we got the goals at the right time, and we looked to see the game through.
"I was delighted with the attitude and application of the team, and the quality we showed at times. I thought Killa did well - he has a great shot on him as well - and Jermaine got another goal which was pleasing.
"At 3-0 you think it's comfortable, but their goal gave them a lift and they had another chance to get back into it after that when Casper made a good save."
Grayson only tinkered slightly with his starting line-up, and signalled his intentions with a strong selection for the game.
"When we bring 10,000 through the turnstiles we should be putting a decent team out," added the boss.
"The majority have been regulars, we left a couple out who needed a breather, but we wanted to win the game and we want to win the competition, and give people a day out at Wembley."
The semi-final takes place during the midweek commencing December 14, with the Northern Final a two-legged affair taking place in January and February.
The final is at Wembley on Sunday March 28.
