United manager Simon Grayson is calling on his players to maintain their high standards at Boundary Park on Saturday.

United head for Oldham in the FA Cup first round for a 5.15pm kick-off, and with just one defeat in 15 league games, Grayson is looking for his players to continue their fine run against League One opposition.

"Dave Penney has Oldham well organised," said the boss. "They have some good players and it'll be a good test.

"But if we do what we've been doing, we have a great chance. People talk about the game being a distraction, but it's another game and it's our next game.

"We've got high standards and the players want to win every game, whether it's in the league, the FA Cup, or the 5-a-side on a Friday."

Oldham are currently 13th in League One and are without a win in five games. The United manager watched their last outing, against Huddersfield last weekend, when the Terriers won a wind-affected game 1-0.

"It was windy there last week and made for a difficult game for both sides," said Grayson.

"Both teams want to get it down and play. There's an open stand down one side, but I think we'll both be looking to get it down.

"We know what we need to do regardless of the conditions."

United old boy Sean Gregan will be lining up in the Oldham ranks on Saturday, and he will be hoping to maintain the form he has shown in previous meetings since his move to Boundary Park.

"In Sean Gregan and Reuben Hazell they have two experienced defenders," added Grayson.

"I want defenders to defend properly, and that's what they both do.

"Sean has had a good career and I know Reuben from Aston Villa. They are good, experienced players, and we have to test them at the weekend." 

The United manager has a selection dilemma about who to partner Jermaine Beckford with at Oldham.

Tresor Kandol is suspended, Luciano Becchio is sidelined with an ankle injury, and Sam Vokes and Max Gradel are ineligible for the FA Cup. Mike Grella, Enoch Showunmi, and Dave Somma will all be in the travelling party.
